Genoa, Wisconsin Genoa is a small village with the population of 266. It was settled during the 1840's by Swiss and Italian immigrants. Genoa's original name started out to be Hastings Landing, then it was named Bad Axe, and finally in 1868 it became "Genoa." The Lock and Dam No. 8 is found in Genoa. In May of 1937, the Genoa Dam was opened for Navigation. This is one of the dams built by the United States Government to improve transportation from Minneapolis to the mouth of the Missouri River.
